TVD round up
Jan. 28th, 2011 07:38 pmSince the show's reairing tonight, I'll sum up all the things I liked about it, and didn't like.
.) Rose is a plot device. Which - if you're in the business of watching spn - you know not to get attached to these plot devices. You also learn not to like Lauren Cohen, because she sucks at acting. I hate watching her cry. Or hearing her talk. But more than that, she was basically there to voice the opinions of the fans, it seems. So kudos for her calling Elena out on her craptastic plan of letting Klaus kill her.
.) I miss the days when strong female characters were actually strong female characters. Elena's plan to stopping the murder of her family is to take herself to Klaus, give him what he wants and die. She seems to have forgotten that Katherine told her there was a witch, a vampire and werewolf involved in that equation too. And whether they die or not is not important, by giving herself up - the rarest part of the combination - she is also sentencing them to a fate they are incapable of choosing for themselves. And she's doing this just because she doesn't want to see anybody she cares about die; evidently that's not a two way street because she doesn't seem to give a shit if the people she loves sees her die. That's weak. Weak weak weak, Elena. And I like that Rose called her out on it. And Elena tried to argue with the five hundred year old vampire who has seen much much more than her. Really?
.) Jules is a bitch. She is the Uncle John of this season. And I kinda love it a whole lot more than I loved Uncle John. It's probably because I was invested in the characters Uncle John was fucking with and thus far all Jules did was kill Rose. Damon has this horrible habit of pissing off the big bad of the season the first moment they step into town. Uncle John, Mason, Katherine, Jules. I hope he kills Jules slowly. I want to see that evil mastermind of yours at work, Damon. Don't angst, get even.
.) Remember back when Jeremy and Tyler looked like they were about to develop a relationship? We haven't seen Jeremy speak to Tyler since before Tyler killed that random chick from Corey in the House.
.) That does bring me to bulletin number five. Now that Tyler's found out the town is crawling with vampires, I would love to see his reaction when he finds out how very mixed up in these vampires Elena and Jeremy are. It's going to suck for him, finding out that Caroline might have cared about him, but she was definitely lying to him. Omission is a form of lying. But Jeremy was also lying to him. And his mother. And even the sheriff of the fucking town. And his history teacher. And his own father. He's likely going to end up as jaded as Jeremy is.
.) That dream at the end with Rose was sad. It kind of broke my heart.
.) That last scene with Damon, and his existential life crisis? And that song in the background while he's pouring out his heart to that random, unfortuante person while he looks like he's ready to cry? I liked it. I know it wasn't badass of him in the least, and he had a whole lot of badass decay going on, but I like progression, I guess. I like that instead of reforming himself for the sake of Elena, Damon finds himself incapable of it and he keeps backsliding because him reforming himself would be far too easy and I don't want some kind of neutered puppy form of Damon (.......like House. Or Spike (though not so much Spike, I actually like his whole existential crisis too) So mainly House.) I don't need a point from A to B. I don't need that kind of progression, all I need is for something to happen. Damon is at a very very very different place than he was in season one, a place presumably he's never been at (he said he's never said it out loud) and even though that's a backslide from his whole not eating humans and caring stage, I like it. We're getting deeper into Damon.
.) Bring on the Vampire vs. Werewolf.
